what you are doing
1. You will be divided into groups of four by the teacher.
2. You will need to obtain a few materials to complete the project including something to film with (i.e. a laptop, camera, or iPhone camera) and any props you may need for your newscast (i.e. a desk and chairs)
3. You will need to pick a role for the newscast because one student in the group should not be narrating every single segment. You will need at least one main newscaster for the introduction and transitions between the segments
-You will need one member to report on the background of WWII, including a reflection on the role of women.
-You will need one member to report on statistics of the war.
-You will need one member to report on rationing and nutrition during the war.
-You will need one member to interview at least one Holocaust survivor and report on their story.
4. You will use the primary sources from the Library of Congress provided for you on the Pathfinder Page to research and create scripts for your newscast.
-Your newscast should be ten to fifteen minutes long.
-Feel free to use additional sources from other areas to help your research and support your primary sources.
5. You need to include some form of charts or visuals for your newscast (or to use as a prop). Remember that newscasts use exciting visual aids to keep the narration interesting and help the audience understand the main ideas.
6. You will have two class periods dedicated to the project: one period for research and one period to film your segments. Any other time you need will be out-of-class work.
7. In conclusion of the project, each group member will write a one-page individual reflection regarding the creative choices made and the way the group worked together. You can also include, but it is not required, thoughts on what you found most important or found interesting from the sources.
